Rugs, Rags and Rights
Promoting recycling and gender equality through rag rug making training and women’s rights workshops.
This project aims to increase gender equality and reduce poverty among marginalised Syrian, Palestinian and Lebanese women, while also contributing to an awareness of the importance of recycling and the development of the circular economy. It will do this in two ways: firstly by training twenty four women in using fabric scraps and second-hand clothing to make practical and attractive rag rugs to sell, increasing their income generation capacity and potential for financial independence. Secondly, the project will increase women’s awareness of their rights, and help them develop the confidence and skills to stand up for them, through a series of workshops on gender and equality.
This project is kindly supported by the Australian Direct Aid Programme. Thank you for making it possible.
